About Me/Hear Me Sing

ABOUT ME

I studied voice at the Royal College of Music (95-97) in London as a postgraduate where I received my performance diploma and studied teaching of voice. When I came top in the ‘Art of Teaching’ class, I was given my first teaching post by the Professor training the course and I have taught now for the last 20 odd years, doing singing jobs for fun and profit. I gained my BA degree in Music from Reading University (89-92) where I subsequently taught voice for 8 years (98-06).

I completed my MMus in Applied Psychology of Music in 2013 with overall distinction at the University of Leeds, where I gained a distinction (80) for my MMus Short Recital, won the Concerto Prize and was awarded the Catherine Mills Bursary Award, 2013.

I have recently been granted full funding and fees to continue my studies at PhD level studying the effects of Mindfulness on Musicians at the University of Leeds (Anne-Marie Czajkowski).  I have recently had my article “Mindfulness for Singers: The effects of a targeted mindfulness course on learning vocal technique” published in the British Journal of Music Education DOI: 10.1017/S0265051715000145 and presented my research at the SEMPRE Health and Well-Being conference in Glasgow in October 2015.
